Najmah was born in Richmond, Virginia and raised in the Gullah/Geechee tradition on St. Helena’s Island, South Carolina. She cherishes her large family network which includes one charismatic son, Paris DJ. Najmah earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Policy from the College of William & Mary, a Master’s Degree in Adult Learning and Distance Education from the University of Phoenix, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Public Policy and Administration from the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs at Virginia Commonwealth University.
In order to serve young people in her local community, Najmah founded a nonprofit organization, Prince & Princess, Inc. in 2003. The organization currently sponsors an awesome Girl Scout Troop at the Pin Oaks Housing Community in the City of Petersburg. She has also served as youth advisor to OPAL (Organization of Progressive Achieving Leaders) since 2005. Najmah is currently working with the Virginia Community College System as project manager for the statewide Workforce Data Quality Initiative. Additionally, she is an adjunct professor at VCU’s Wilder School.
Most people who are familiar with Najmah indicate that she is a gifted public speaker, a results-oriented professional, and generally a pleasure to work with. Najmah is dedicated to using her educational and professional experiences to build the capacity of individuals and organizations to bring about economic and social equity in our lifetimes, and to improve the lives of risk youth.
